Doors are one thing in your home that are subject to heavy and constant use. Between wear and tear, and your home settling, doors almost always require maintenance of varying degrees. Fixing or replacing exterior and interior doors is one of the most common things we do. We can repair or replace; Interior, Exterior, Sliding, Screen/Storm, and Shower doors. We can also freshen up your doors by sanding down and adding a new coat of paint to them. Exterior doors typically require more maintenance because they’re subject to environmental conditions from outside. Because of this, you want to make sure the door stays sealed properly (weather stripping) and that the paint stays in decent shape.
What things do you typically repair on doors?
The most common repairs we do on doors are;
Updating weather stripping
Adjusting hinges (door not closing properly/sticking or dragging)
Adjusting strike plates (door isn’t latching correctly)
Adjust/tighten door handles and deadbolts
We can also typically trim the edges of doors if your house has settled and the door doesn’t fit in the frame anymore.
When to repair your door?
If you have to struggle to open and close your door, or your door isn’t latching properly it’s definitely time to get it fixed. If your door has cracking, rust, water damage or other damage it may be worth thinking about a replacement as well.
Usually doors will not outlast you in a home unless you’re moving every few years. As time goes on, your door (especially if not maintained properly) will go from the repair to replace stage. One of the big things to think about when considering repair or replace is how much money is going to repairs. Instead of repairing your door, the better option may be replacing your door with something more energy and cost efficient.
